Therapeutic options

The goal of asthma treatment is to achieve and maintain clinical asthma control (Figure 1). Pharmacological interventions are the cornerstone of asthma management.¹

Although the majority of asthma treatments are inhaled, they can also be administered orally and parenterally. Medications that treat asthma can be divided into two categories:

1. Bronchodilators 
2. Anti-inflammatory drugs
