Therapeutic options

The goal of asthma treatment is to achieve and maintain clinical asthma control (Figure 1). Pharmacological interventions are the cornerstone of asthma management.1

Although the majority of asthma treatments are inhaled, they can also be administered orally and parenterally. Medications that treat asthma can be divided into two categories:

  1. Bronchodilators 
  2. Anti-inflammatory drugs
