Small airway function

A number of clinical studies have investigated the effect of Alvesco® on parameters of small airway function.1–3 One study found that in patients pre-treated with large-particle fluticasone propionate DPI, Alvesco® significantly reduced small airway resistance and eosinophils in late-phase (small airways-sampled) sputum (Figure 1), compared with fluticasone propionate alone.1

The same study found that this reduction in small airway inflammation was associated with an improvement in Asthma Control Test™ (ACT) scores (Figure 2).1

Another study has found that Alvesco® reduces the hyperresponsiveness of small airways to fine-particle provocation.3
